Waikiwi Vets
A History of Caring for Animals in Southland
Waikiwi Vets is Invercargill’s oldest private veterinary practice, dating back to 1954. It was founded by Irish immigrant Paddy Dunne, who brought with him a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Paddy was a true mixed vet, meaning he treated a wide range of animals, from farm animals to pets. He was also a pioneer in the field of artificial insemination, and is credited with introducing the Charolais beef breed to New Zealand.
